Galasource.com Closed - Paid Orders Unfilled Across USA

Galasource Inc (www.galasource.com), a Denver based web site that caters to restaurant, retail and hospitality businesses appears to have closed and may be leaving thousands of dollars of paid orders unfilled across the country.

As of June 20, the Galasource web site is still up, but states the shopping cart is inactive and the site is not accepting orders. BBB Denver/Boulder, where the firm is based, reports that businesses from 15 states have filed complaints about the company in 2008, with complaints originating from 11 of those states.

We urge you to remember 'caveat emptor'. Act accordingly. Please pass this on to any of your colleagues – even competitors – who may have been doing business in this regard…or anticipate doing so.

The CEO of Galasource, Brett Harris, has ripped off thousands and thousands of dollars from hundreds of people. Mostly he was taking orders and money and not shipping anything out. Check the full story here:

Assuming most of this is true, this really is a dismal and sad state of affairs.

But it does point out that — especially in this down economy — all restaurateurs and their staffs have to be even more vigilant and on the look-out for scams, cons and just plain bad people who don't pay their bills…or worse.

Forewarned is forearmed….

I ordered 5 cases of mugs on 4/20/08 from Galasource and was charged for the items, told that they would ship on 6/5 and never heard from the company again! Simply closing their doors is unacceptable. They have stolen money from a children's camp program!

On 5/20/08 I ordered 7 dozen stemless martini glasses and was told I would receive them within 5-7 business days. A week later, they sent me an email stating my order would be delayed 30-60 days. Not only was I unsuccessful in my few dozen attempts to contact customer service and cancel my order, but I still have not received my glasses! I just found out today that the company has closed its doors after taking thousands of dollars from businesses and private consumers and never following through with their orders. I am infuriated!! Does anyone know if anything is being done about this? I put a complaint in to the Better Business Bureau but they told me that since the company is closed, there is really nothing they can do…

I am so sorry that you, like so many others apparently, got caught in such a mess.

It just goes to show you that when not sure, always take that little bit of extra time to check out that supplier. Call the local BBB; or if you have the ability, check their credit rating to see if there have been any problems paying their own bills.

If there are problems, or even a hint of them, my advice is to give that supplier a miss…no matter how great the deal or price seems. You know the old adage: "it it seems too good to be true…it is."

'Same goes with any supplier or sales person trying to sell you marketing-oriented items: e.g. newspaper space, magazine ads, co-op direct mail, radio time, t.v. time, loyalty programs and such. Ask for a list of customers in the last 90 days. Then actually pick up the phone and randomly call every 'nth' customer on that list.

Spend as much time on this as you deem necessary, in relation to the risk and money associated with this buying decision.

Good luck…

Roy
